Lion Jerry is a member of the 114 member Ocala Lions Club. He has been the
club’s Tail Twister; 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Vice-President; Treasurer (two terms)
and President. He has been the District 35-L Treasurer (two terms), Special
Projects Chair, Region Chair, and MERL Team Leadership Chair. Lion Jerry
served as the District 35-L 1st Vice District Governor last year.
He has earned the Governor’s Achievement Award, five (5) Anchor Awards,
three (3) Golden Chain Awards, and the President’s Excellence Award. He has
been the Lion of the Year for both his club and his district.
Lion Jerry prides himself in being a grass-root lion and has demonstrated
this by leading his club’s (1) primary fundraiser for the past 6 years, which
generated over $150,000 in gross revenue; and (2) sight, hearing and glaucoma
Mobile Screening Van program for 5 years, which completed over 6,700 screenings
during that period.
Lion Jerry was awarded the District Governor’s Appreciation Award for his
contribution as a speaker at the 2007 Lions Leadership Symposium and is currently
a writer on Leadership related topics for the district newsletter and multiple-district
magazine.
Lion Jerry is a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow, Grand Lion Life Member,
and Certified Guiding Lion. Jerry retired after 38 years with the U. S. Department
of Agriculture as a Senior Program Manager. Over the course of his career,
he held progressively responsible positions and was recognized numerous times
for his outstanding performance and accomplishments, including two Departmental
Honor Awards.
Lion Jerry has three daughters and four grandchildren. Lion Barbara is the
mother of two of the daughters, one a Seminole and the other a Gator. Lion
Jerry’s life priorities are God, family, Lionism and spectator sports, particularly
the Washington Redskins, Gators and Noles….yes, Gators and Noles!!
