Roger A. Vonland

Elected to the position of District Governor at the Multiple District Convention in May 2007, Lion Roger A. Vonland has been a member of the Cypress Gardens Lions Club since 2004.

District Governor Vonland became a Lion in 1960 as a member of the Oxon Hill Lions Club in District 22-C, Maryland.  Since that time Lion Roger served in many of the club offices and as a 100% President of 5 different Lions Club as his travels with the business and Military service have taken him.

Lion Roger has served as used eye glass chair, Extension Chair in District 18-D, as a Hearing Foundation Director, President of District 35-O Project Right to Sight and Deputy District Governor 3 times.  Lion Roger also served as Georgia Lions Representative to the Atlanta Blind Services.

Professionally, Lion Roger served his country in the United States Air Force as enlisted person after which he took time to complete his college education earning a BS and MBA in Economics and Management from the University of Alabama (Roll Tide).  He later earned a M.S. in Public Administration from George Washington University and was awarded Certificate of Theology from Emory, Vanderbilt and Atlanta University Seminaries.  He spent more than 20 years as an economist for the U. S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Department of Housing and Urban Development.  Lion Roger received a commission in the United States Navy following his graduation from Alabama and served 20 years of commissioned active duty and reserve service and retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Commander with more than 25 years of service.

District Governor Vonland as a full time volunteer to Habitat for Humanity headquarters in Americus, Georgia, Meals on Wheels in Florida and Illinois, has been a Hospice Volunteer and Poll Worker in Georgia and Florida.  He also served Pastorates in Georgia and Alabama and as Chaplain at Hartsfield International Airport in Atlanta.

District Governor Vonland is a Life Member of Lions Club International and has been a 100% Club Secretary more than 20 times and has been Lion of the Year in 6 different clubs.  Lion Roger is a Tom Bingham Fellow of the Georgia Lighthouse for the Blind, and received Tennessee’s Lion of the Decade in 1988.  He is a Mel Carver Fellow of the Florida Lions Camp, Lyonal Lindsey Fellow, a Grand Lion of the Florida Lions Foundation and is a Melvin Jones Fellow.

Lion Roger and his wife Lion Alice, reside in Davenport.
