LIONS CONKLIN CENTER for MULTIHANDICAPPED BLIND
405 White Street
Daytona Beach FL 32114-2999
Bus: 386-258-3441
To be accepted for admission, all students must be blind or nearly blind, and have at least one other disabling condition. Commonly, these other conditions include deafness, brain injury, physical limitation, social or educational complication, or mental retardation.
The Center is located on a nine acre campus in Daytona Beach. It serves youths and adults from throughout the world. A high staff-to-student ratio is maintained, enabling "custom design" of services to meet unusual student needs. This allows Conklin Center graduates to assume control over
their lives, reduce or eliminate dependency on welfare or institutions, and earn their own wages in the world.
Founded on the belief that a significant percentage of multihandicapped blind individuals can maintain useful roles in society, the Center is the only agency in the United States that works exclusively with those unusual and often overlooked persons.
The Center was established in 1979 through an agreement between the State of Florida and the Lions Clubs of Florida with the purpose being rehabilitation of multihandicapped blind. The Center enjoys having
accreditation by the National Accreditation Council of Agencies Serving the Blind and Visually Handicapped.
