Located within the Bascom Palmer facility, the Florida Lions Eye Bank is one of the most successful ophthalmic tissue banks in the country. This Eye Bank is the only eye bank in the United States which provides all of their services FREE OF CHARGE.

During the past 40 years, approximately 57,000 corneas and scleras have been provided for transplantation throughout South Florida and around the world. The Eye Bank has also provided 24,968 eyes for research and teaching, working closely with departments such as the biophysics laboratory. Also, FLEB funds over $50,000 to the University of Miami to help underwrite projects in various stages of development at the Biophysics Laboratory. The Florida Lions Eye Bank also operates a Pathology Laboratory. Physicians and Medical Examiners from all over Florida send tissue to this lab to be studied for diagnostic purposes and child abuse investigations. Approximately 2,000 studies are performed each year in this lab.
